Fallout 4 is the most expected game in 2015. It is expected to become the Game of the Year easily. We have rounded up the stories people are talking about Fallout 4 this week.
Coverage of Fallout at Quakecon
Fallout has showed up at Quakecon 2015. In the show, there was a presence of a real dog which is used as a model for Meatdog in the game. Then Bethesda’s vice president, Todd Howards has revealed the following new details of Fallout 4.
New companion: Bethesda disclosed Piper as players’ new female companion. Devs also revealed that players can romance with any companion regardless of gender.
Over 1,000 names in the name bank: In the game, players can choose a name that will let Mr.Handy, a personal robot, to call a character. There are over thousands of popular names available and players can have Mr.Handy call them in a funny name.
Leveling and perks: Everybody knows since E3 that players can progress their character. Howard revealed the status of a character systems called S.P.E.C.I.A.L. rating (strength, perception, endurance, intelligence, agility, luck). Once the level is up, perks will be available to upgrade. Perks will be tied with the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. rating one upgrades. 70 Perks are available, each perk has a rank, and the rank is up to 275 ranks.
Other features shown in the conference are new weapons, lock picking system, and factions. During the presentation, attendees are not allowed to take photos or record a video.
After new details were revealed, Draztick from Nerds or Derves agreed that SPECIAL system will give players more freedom. “ I really want the perk choices I make for my character to affect side missions that become available to me. For instance, if I create an assassin, I want the game to recognize that I have chosen “Assassin-like” perks and unlock “assassination” missions and such. If the game makes all types of side missions available to all characters, maybe a certain combination of perks will unlock additional, unique versions of those side mission types. This will increase the playability of this game tremendously and will make it last until the next Bethesda game comes out,” he says.
Christopher Livingston of PC Gamer noticed that information about weapon is missing, he asked Todd Howard and seemed like he didn’t want to answer that. “Despite the lack of answers, I actually felt relieved that the refusal to discuss the subject was so adamant. They’re hiding something, which is good, because I was honestly afraid that the repair system might have been removed altogether.” He assumed anyway that the repair system might be changed.
No More Pip Boy
Pip Boy proves its popularity, with the Pip Boy edition being sold out quickly. Many fans want to see it in stock again though.
When asked why Bethesda hasn’t made any action to restock the Pip Boy edition again, Pete Hines Vice President of Bethesda said to Gamespot that the factory they hired can no longer make more of them.
“We reached a point where we’d go back to the factories and they were like, ‘guys, this is it, sorry..,, This is as long as we can run the lines and as many of them as we can make,” says Hines.
The PipBoy Edition is a collectible bundle that comes with a Pip Boy device like the one the character wears in the gameplay. The Pip Boy device can work with an iPhone. The Pip Boy Edition costs $120 and it is sold out rapidly everywhere.
Many fans were upset with this accusation and suggested that the company should do better than this.
“It is simple. The idea was to either only make so many to begin with or make so many now and see how it sells and then find away to make more later if they sellout like they did. Lets face it a multi-million dollar a year company can’t make more. I don’t believe that. They would either throw more money at the place that is making them now or they would find someone else, again unless the game plan was to only make a select amount and then act like it was an issue with the place making them.” User shanec50 posted on IGN.
“This is such a line of bullshit if ever I’ve heard it. What kind of factory (a business mind you) refuses to make more money by producing more of a successful product.?! How could a factory stay in business?” Gravity_Slave slammed them on a Gamespot’ article.
It’d be like Sony saying they can’t make more PS4’s despite them selling well because the factory “doesn’t wanna”. That’s insane.” Seems many fans won’t stop their campaigning, even going the extra length of posting their demands on Change.org.
Here are some of the comments posted:
“I’m a genuine fan, and I’ve never been so gutted about missing out on anything so much, in my life!”
“And, to rub a little salt on the wound, they began to appear on Ebay moments after selling-out, for more than twice the original retail price.”
“This makes me sad. :(“
“We need more Pip-Boys, Bethesda! Don’t let the scalpers win!”
Fallout Shelter to Join Android
While waiting for November 10, Fallout fans can play Fallout Shelter. The game has become popular already among Fallout fans as Bethesda has made 5 million from Fallout Shelter. It is a mobile game form Bethesda where players can control the underground vault, make all residents happy and keep them away from all dangerous threats. It is first exclusively available on iOS. Now, it is Android user’s turn to enjoy the game. Fallout Shelter will be available on Android in August 13. The new feature will add a new enemy – Deathclaw, the fearsome creature. Mr. Handy, a utility robot who will help you collect resources, is also a recent addition. The iOS platform will get an update on the same day.
The feedback for Fallout Shelter is very well, with Bethesda earning over $5 million from it. Gav Murphy from Vice admitted he is addicted to this freemium mobile game. “I downloaded it because I’m a fan of the Fallout series, and also of dressing people in clothes and dragging them around rooms that I’ve built and making them work for me. If that’s the kind of thing you’re into, then you might enjoy it for a little bit, just like I did.”
Dylan Tredrea, Product Manager at Rovio Entertainment also believes that Fallout Shelter will be a big hit in the mobile game scene. “Fallout Shelter is successful because the brand drove a ton of installs and the team that made the game did a great job.”
According to screen resolution and frame rate revealed by Bethesda, Fallout 4 will run at 1080p and 30 FPS. However, there is no limit for PC platform. What made PC fan doubt the most are the specs requirements. There is no official announcement about PC specs because the PC version will be released later (around early 2016). So right now, there are just only predictions. Here are the expectation from iDigitalTimes:
- Intel CPU Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
- AMD CPU Phenom II X4 940
- Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 660
- AMD GPU Radeon HD 7870
- RAM 6GB
- OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
- DirectX 11
- HDD Space 40 GB
This is only a guess, and the true requirements will be announced when the PC version is ready.
More at Gamescom
Many features were shown both in E3 and Quakecom. However, Fallout fans are expecting more from Bethesda in Gamescom. Bethesda confirms that Fallout 4 details will go in-depth this time. However, many pundits assume that the content might be similar to what they have shown in Quakecon.
Brad Jones from Gamerant believes that Bethesda wants to build the hype and make it to be the biggest game of 2015. “Despite once being a favourite of the hardcore crowd, it’s clear that Fallout has the potential to be a fully fledged mainstream hit when it releases later in the year. In fact, it may well turn out to be the biggest video game release of 2015, if the finished product can live up to the hype.”
TechRadar predicted the Gamescom show and thought that only Fallout 4 will come out from Bethesda. “After its phenomenal E3 showcase, Bethesda will be hitting Gamescom to show us more of Fallout 4. Unfortunately it won’t be offering up a playable trailer, but Bethesda will be showing off more gameplay at a presentation. Don’t expect footage of any of the other Bethesda titles – Gamescom will be dedicated to the nuclear wasteland.”
Gamescom 2015 will be held in Cologne, Germany, starting from August 6-9 2015. Visit its site for more details.
