This week’s featured journalist is Silviu Ploisteanu. He runs a website called Fallout Facts, and you are probably already following some of the Facebook pages that are under his belt such as: Addicted to Fallout, Fallout and Chill, Fawkes the Mindful, Fallout History, Wasteland Cosplayers and Humans of The Wasteland. Previously we have featured Chris Reed, Andy Chalk, Pete Haas, William Usher, and Ryan Winslett. This week, find out what made Silviu got hooked on Fallout and what he thinks really happened in the Vault.
Please introduce yourself.
Hi. My name is Silviu Ploisteanu, I’m from post-apocalyptic Romania (kidding! or maybe not), and I’m addicted to Fallout. How addicted? Well, I have a bunch of Fallout pages on Facebook, a Tumblr page, a Twitter page and a website called Fallout Facts. You get the picture…
How long have you been playing the Fallout series?
I’ve been a fan since the beginning. The moment I watched the Fallout 1 intro and heard “War, war never changes…” I was hooked. At that time there were lots of games with orcs and fairies and stuff like that (Warcraft for e.g. or the Ultima series). Fallout gave us all an escape from all the pretty stuff and throw us into the horror that is the nuclear holocaust.
What do you consider as the main attraction of the Fallout series? And which installment is your most favorite?
I think a lot of people will agree with me: NOSTALGIA. It’s that 1950’s feeling, the music and the Deco style architecture. I simply love the retro-futuristic aspect of the game. I have a Facebook page called Nostalgia for The Future where I post about this kind of stuff. But what attracts me the most is this desolate world that has gone through nuclear fire and now struggles to survive against all odds. It’s just fascinating to me… Fallout 3 is my favorite game because I just love wandering its Wasteland, as you can see in these screenshots I took.
What do you expect to see in Fallout 4? Which feature are you most excited about?
Well, since Fallout 4 takes place “slightly after” Fallout 3, I’m curious to see what happens next. I want to find out what happened with the Enclave (are they still around?), what’s the story with my Vault (my guess would be something to do with cryogenics), but mostly, I just want to wander around and find all the secrets of this new Wasteland. I am eager to *fly* in my new Power Armor (that looks like a mech) and I can’t wait to craft as many weapons as humanly possible. I also expect smarter A.I. that takes cover and uses the environment. Hopefully, no more stupid raiders that charge me with a lead pipe when I’m in Power Armor.
What Mods would you like to see in Fallout 4?
First, an ENB (lighting overhaul) that will make the game darker. It’s a little colorful for my taste right now. Then, I would like to fight some familiar creatures and maybe visit old friends, such as Fawkes, from the previous installments. I also want back listed dialogs (don’t like the simplified menu) and I’d like to have the skill points restored and tied to perks. But we all know that the one mod everyone will get as soon as Fallout 4 is released is the one that puts “Jingle Jangle Jingle” back in the game, hahaha.
This is the first time that the protagonist will have a voice. Some fans slammed it because it allegedly destroys tradition, but some liked it because it enhances the natural feel of the game, what are your views about it?
I grew up with Half-Life. While the silent protagonist helps immerse yourself into the game, it isn’t really necessary. Mass Effect demonstrated that very well. Something tells me that Gordon Freeman will also have a voice in Half-Life 3, he he he… As for destroying tradition, Bethesda already did with Fallout 3. I still love the game though, always will.
Which character in Fallout 4 will you have a romantic relationship with, if you can?
Hmmm… I don’t know. Not much has been revealed about companions. Probably a ghoul or an android, just for fun.
We’ve heard that the name bank in Fallout 4 will have more than 10,000 names on it. If you were to come up with a name to call yourself/your enemies, what would it be?
If they used that many names, I’m sure my name tag would be there too: Fawkes. As for enemies, Fu*kface sounds fun and it was added already, as far as I know.
While waiting for Fallout 4, will you be playing Fallout Shelter? Why/why not?
I used to play Fallout Shelter about half an hour every day on my PC. I got bored of it though… They should start rolling more updates if they want to keep us interested.
Fallout has been presented in many game conferences. Some negative critics said it is just similar with previous installments of Fallout. Do you agree/disagree with this statement? Why/why not?
Strongly disagree. Fallout 4 is a lot different than the previous games. From the color palette to mechanics, there’s a lot of new stuff coming to a PC or console near you this November.
If you have friends who have never played Fallout before, how will you persuade them to join Fallout 4?
Well, I would try to trick them into playing it by associating Fallout with other video games they already played. For example, I would say “It has that Bioshock vibe where everything is retro.” I would also tell them that you can blow off people’s heads by shooting them in the leg; that is always fun. If they played other games by Bethesda, I would tell them it’s made by the same company. If they’re fans of movies like “The Road” or “The Divide”, I would tell them the game is similar, as it depicts the survival of Mankind after nuclear war.
There you have it from Silviu. We too are looking forward to have a darker mood in Fallout 4. Do you have any questions for Silviu? Do you agree with what he has to say about Fallout 4? Let us know in the Comments section.
